As temperatures climb across India, the humble dohar becomes one of the most important things on your bed. Light enough to not trap heat, yet substantial enough to feel like a proper cover — a good dohar is a summer essential. But with so many options in the market, how do you choose the right one?
1. Always Choose Pure Cotton
This is non-negotiable for Indian summers. Pure cotton is breathable, moisture-wicking, and gets softer with every wash. Synthetic or microfibre dohars may feel soft initially, but they trap heat and cause sweating — the last thing you want on a humid night in June.

2. Check the Weight

4. Look at the Weave
A muslin or voile weave is ideal for peak summer — it's open-weave, ultra-breathable, and dries quickly after washing. A tighter weave works better for transitional months like March or October when nights are cooler.
5. Consider the Fill
Traditional Jaipuri dohars use cotton fill layered between two fabric panels. This is the gold standard — natural, breathable, and long-lasting. Avoid dohars with synthetic fill, which retains heat and doesn't breathe.
